What Do You Do When...

....a public figure you or your children enjoy do something inappropriate? i know we are all human and make mistakes....but there is something about public figures that bothers me....while a lot of them deny wanting to be role models, the truth is, it comes with the territory so you have to take the good with the bad (if being a role model is considered bad). personally i don't think it's a bad deal...you get paid millions of dollars to have your face flung everywhere. you are thrust into the public....so to ask people not to fully observe what you do is silly.

anyhoo, i ask this because i am tired of the war going on over r. kelly and hanna montana. once r. kelly was even suspected of having sex with a child, i could no longer shake my bootay to his songs. no, i don't know him and vice versa...but in my heart of hearts, that is a serious crime and there seemed to be some pretty damning evidence to support this claim. and even tho it took 6-7 years to put him on trial, it just never was the same. now, if for some reason he is cleared of these charges 100%, then cool. until then, the fact that you are even associated with such filth is something i cannot support.

now on to hanna montana...my baby is a little too young to undertsand the hysteria surrounding this ordinary looking girl who wears a blond wig and sings rock songs. BUT there are MANY little girls who are enamored with her. and it seems as if this 15 years old child has a problem acting and looking 15....in the past year, she has been under fire at LEAST 4 times for inappropriate pictures and looks.

if my kid DID love hanna montana, it'd be a problem. i cannot contribute to her soon-to-be billion dollar empire when she is insisting on being the next britney spears. hey, to each his own! do what you do! but neither me nor mine will support inappropriate behavior...even when you are on your time. little kids do not understand that you were at home just "playing." they just see hanna montana.

(some) adults are not bothered by the looming possibility of r. being a disgusting pedophile because they like his tunes (lest we forget his marriage to aaliyah at 15 yeras of age)....but with me, it's all or nothing. and because you are a public figure, even what you do off stage is our "business", for lack of a better word.

think of it this way......if you had a great friend, and it was discovered they had a sex tape with a child, urinating on them and such...would you still have them over for tea and crumpets? at least until they were cleared of all charges? would you cotinue to let your kids go play at their house?

or if your kid had a friend that was as sweet as cherry pie, yet dressed like a slut, always bearing her mini-breasts and bra and taking pictures in her panties, laying in beds with boys along with locking tongues with girlfriends, would you continue to let your child have sleepovers with them? hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

WELL PCD THAT WAS SOME POWERFUL STUFF YOU JUST SAID, AT FIRST I FELT LIKE WITH R. KELLY THOSE GIRLS KNOW WHAT IN THE HELL THEY ARE DOING AND THEY SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

BUT WHEN YOU PUT IT LIKE THAT I CANT SAY NOTHING BUT THAT I AGREE. HOW WOULD I FEEL IF THAT WAS MY CHILD(DONT HAVE NONE), BUT STILL HOW WOULD I FEEL. AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT I WOULDNT WANT HIS AZZ NO WHERE NEAR MY CHILDREN

AND YES HE MARRIED AALIYAH AND 15, BUT ONE QUESTION I WANT TO KNOW IS WHERE IN THE WORLD WAS HER PARENTS AND WHY WOULD THEY ALLOW SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO TAKE PLACE.

I HAVE NO WORDS FOR HANNA MONTANA I THINK SHE ISNT REALLY THAT TALENTED AND CANT SING WORTH A LICK. BUT I DEFINITELY FEEL YOU ON THIS ROLE MODELS AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE ON CHILDREN TODAY.

GOOD POST PCD!!!! GOOD POST.

The bibles says that...to much is given...much is required....I think when you are in a position of power...you have the opportunity to use it for good or bad....when your voice is heard by so many...you can speak words or life or death...unfortunately everyone who becomes a shining light for so many others to see...does not recognize how they can impact so many lives as either a good role model or a bad influence....But the reality is when the time comes they will be judged by God. for what they did and did not do with the gifts and opportunities He gave them....As you said no one is perfect..but we can all work toward being better and ultimately help make our next generation better...you and I may never get a chance to be in the public's eyes....but surely we are being watched by those in our circle...let's just keep working to be a positive light for them...perhaps they are the next R. Kelly and Hannah Montana...the good seeds we plant could bless the world later on....Peace & Blessings.

Really good post.

R. Kelly and Hannah Montana are kind of like apples and oranges so it's almost separate issues.

I appreciate R. kelly's musical genius. He's had some great songs. Am I a fan of him as a person? Will I go and see him in concert? No. Because I think he has mental problems and is a pervert that exploits underaged girls. I hope at some point he is held accountable for his actions because denial and a persecution complex will not get him the help he severely needs.

Hannah Montana - I hadn't seen all of the pics of her. Yeah, she is definitely headed to a Britney sexpot zone. I think it shows a 15 year old who maybe was not ready for all of the spotlight and is exercising poor judgment. I think parents certainly have the right not to let their kids watch or support her if she's not going to keep a Disney wholesome image.

I can not wait for R. Kelly to go to the slammer!!! If he gets off without a hitch, I'm going to be upset. What he did in that video is despicable! The fact that people have actually embraced him and bought his CDs since these OBVIOUS allegations is just sad.

That little girl was only 14, right? He used his "celebrity" as an advantage. I don't get it when people say she knew what she was doing. The bottom line is that she was a child and he committed a CRIME!!!

As for Hannah Montana...I simply blame her parents for her actions. Just my thoughts! :-)

i'm w/you on r. i stopped listening to his music JIC i liked it when i first heard the charges. i can't endorse that. as far as miley. i COMPLETELY blame her parents. they exposed her to that sort of stuff. it's their job to protect her image. she doesn't know any better. 15 yos do dumb stuff and don't realize how dumb it is until afterwards. that's why parents are supposed to have that foresight. the pics in the magazine that were so maligned? her father was there. that is absolutely his fault. you don't let your teenage daughter pose naked for anyone.

@ dreamcop...true! but the thing is most stars today do not have to be talented to be successful and have droves of admirers so (imo)they should watch out...or start to feel the burn of irresponsible behavior

@ keisha...very true. sad thing, my concern for the children are that we can't put blinders of them and sometimes they will run across crap like this. i just wish the people would deal with their indiscretions. it makes things confusing for young minds...but we certainly can do our part :-)

@ traveldiva...definitely apples and oranges....but still fruit ;-) they both are guilty of projecting irresponsible acts into the atmosphere. and while montana is still a minor and her parents should be all over her at this point...it pains me that THIS chick is a near billionaire and THIS chick has something in her that warrants this type of behavior.

@ bgg...i am so enraged that kelly's trial, damnation and verdict has taken this long....but it says a lot about us as people that such actions can go unaddressed for so long..simply because its r. kelly. hanna's parents are obviously slacking on the job...butshe still needs to cool the inner fire thats lighting her tail! i wonder if the parents knew about these pics before they were made public...

@ jameil...i concur, but i wonder, when i was 15, my level of dumb stuff was no where near doing things on her level. i was passing notes in class or sneaking on the telephone...not taking nudie pics or licking chicks. it never even crossed my mind...but if it had, my mum would have slapped the thought from my mind for sure-lol!

I have no words for the R. Kelly-palooza/circus act

There's something about Miley C that just doesn't sit right with me. SHe reminds me of those undercover slutty girls in high school for some reason, and her pic for that magazine was very VERY disturbing. I can't believe her parents always remain so mum about everything. My MOTHER would have been my arse, even at the age of 15, if I was parading around in my bra and undies posing for pictures and demanded that I destroy them even BEFORE the media ever knew they existed.

**Sidenote: I know this comment is inappropriate, but Miley's little girlfriend is not cute at all. UGH!

i'm sure her exposure to these sorts of things is on a whole nother level. her father has been famous her entire life and she's been famous for several years. that means she's been around and seen things some people will never see. parents know this and they know it especially in hollywood. a 15 yo who apparently has not had the strictest of standards is not going to know if her parents didn't teach her. you know better b/c your parents taught you.
