yesterday, i was at one of my mommy meetings and a mom was there that i never met. we introduced ourselves and started chatting it up. she went on about the struggles she's having with her daughter sleeping at night. so i said, "you just have the one daughter right?"
she looked at me like i was insane and said, "i'm pregnant! due in september! HMPH!" i was so caught off guard that i said very loudly, "oh, OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!?!?!?! you're pregnant?"
ok, so here's the full scenario. she was a very large woman. so much so that i just assumed that the flabby mid-section she was sporting was attributed to partaking of 10 too many brownies every night. not to mention that if she is due in september, then she's only about 4 months pregnant, which is not THAT big anyways. but i was genuinely shocked, so my outburst totally translated that...it was like "oh, there's a baby in there? not just fat?" ok, hello, my name is............
i TRULY didn't mean to react so abruptly, especially since i try to be mindful of my manners at all times. i really felt bad afterward because i'm sure she picked up on my tone...but i was surprised because of how she looked at me and declared her spermination so fervently, so it just slipped out.

Your post is too funny!! I actually have had a somewhat similar experience. I can't remember the exact details, but all I know is that I was talking to this woman (I was working with her, but didn't know her that well) and for some reason we were trying to guess each other's age. She guessed that I was much younger than I was (I was 23 at the time and I actually look pretty young for my age). So when I guess her age, I tried to go really low out of courtesy by saying she was 40 (she looked 55) and turns out she was only 38!!! We just totally went back to what we were doing and sat there in silence! LOL!!
I have made the mistake about the woman actually being pregnant and it turns out they are just overweight many times on the NY Transit. I remember how it would make me feel when people didn't offer me their seat when I was pregnant. So I try to do it for other women. But this has gotten me the evil stank eye more than once.
I'm laughing hystercially... I've heard stories of a lot worse though... She could have been so big that you thought she was pregnant and you said something to her about and she wasnt... now that's the worst!
funny, something similar happened to me, a teacher of mine looked really big, bigger than normal, it wasn't any of my business, but i dint know if to congratulate her, but i kept my mouth closed and she was prggers
at least it wasn't the other way around when you thought she was pregnant when she wasn't.
LOL!!! It happened to me the other day at my son's school. As I was walking in the school, I held the door open for a woman who was there to pick up Timmy...who is in my son's 3rd grade class. I made it to the classroom before she did. Timmy said hello to me. I said hello to him and I let him know that his GRANDMOTHER was here to pick him up. He said..."that's my momma"! DAMN! I was embarrassed b/c he said it in front of the teacher. I also hurried my son out of the class before she could get there and hear the story that would be retold by Timmy. LOL
woah.......this is so not a cute mistake, it hurts...not that i can relate but i can imagine if i was on the other side of his convo (the supposedly pregnant part)
LMAO!
pls tell me how a 4mth old pregnancy translates to a daughter who disturbs her at nyt?
classical case of us putting our foot in our mouth yea?
oh please. i really think you have nothing to be embarassed about! like you said 4 mos along is nothing! you can't even really tell that on a thin person half the time. i know i've had some foot in mouth disease times but can't remember any off hand.
NO, but I was on the elevator once and this chick got on and she rubbed my stomach and I gave her the most bizarre look(I wasnt pregnant) she couldn't do nothing but cringe and she said with the most scared and frightened look on her face "Im sooooo sorry" I just held in my laugh, but when she got off the elevator I laughed so hard. I have a lil mommy belly from my two kids but its not that serious.
This funny but I've done this...I asked a young lady how many months pregnant she was....She replied well I'm not pregnant I'm just fat..I told her I'm so sorry and walked away...
