so last night, i was on the computer and i was trying to stay awake. so i flipped thru the channels and came across flavor of love 3. i can't even begin to describe the monstrocity that was going on in that show. needless to say, i was flabbergasted when i saw flavor flav sporting a high top out of straightened hair that was somehow miraculously freeze-dried up into an actual high top, probably with hair spray.
so the wheels in my head began to turn and i wondered, have i ever looked so silly for fashion (or individuality) before? everyone is different and has their own sense of identity when it comes to how they look. and looking back, some of the trends that i fell victim to make me gag, lol! but have you ever done something fashion wise that was so different or down with a current trend, that the end result was silly?
i know i have. looking back, i'd have to say that i did two odd things that made me look a mess....of course i thought it was cute then. as a freshman in college, i wanted to stand out. i didn't want to look like every other girl. so i decided to bleach the front of my hair. just two little tendrils that hung in the front. what made this so odd looking was the rest of my hair is dark brown, so the stark contrast really made your eyes go *boing!* when you looked at it. and if i put my hair in a ponytail, it looked weird slicked back amongst all of that dark hair. needless to say, all of that bleaching made those chunks of hair break off terribly and i was walking around with blond straggles in the front. also, at one point in high school, i decided to dress like a boy. i wore nothing but jerseys and big pants. truthfully, i was trying to hide my (no) figure. i was a "slow" developer (cough) so i was as straight as a board for the longest-lol! so if it was big or baggy, i had it on. big plaid shirts, pants so big, they were falling off. and i chopped my hair into the bluntest bob known to man. it looked HORRID.
so, share! ****WHAT WAS YOUR WORST TIME WITH FASHION? WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR OR WARDROBE THAT LOOKED LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR IT? lol

Great topic!
I think my sense of fashion wasn't develop until I got to college. When I was in high school, I had the high top fade and at one point I was on that BBD tip. You know...hip hop, smooved out, on the r&b tip with a pop feel appeal to it. LOL. I'd wear paisley shirts, hats with the tags still on it, baggy pants, etc. Just a mess. I shudder to think what my sons will say when they see some of those pictures. LOL
By high school my fierce fashion sense had kicked in, possibly because I finally grew into my figure. In middle school I wore really baggy boyish type clothes to hide my figure because I was an early bloomer, and I wore this really deep plum looking lipstick. I wore braces back in the gap and would always choose the flourescent colored bands. Needless to say...I was a hot damn mess! LOL. And don't get me started on the biker shorts and T-shirt trend with the little shirt holder thingies on the end of the shirt. Maaaaan, I though I was the ish!
^^thought
@ 12kyle...ok, why was i singing the BBD theme as i read your comment? lol! forget the pics...you should do your b-boy dance and sing that hook for your sons...i bet they'll roll on the floor laughing!
@ queen...oooooh, the colored braces bands? LOL, and i remember the biker shorts & tied t-shirts. i never could have any biker shorts tho. mum wouldn't let me :-(

I have a comment on this topic but I have to save it for later. I'm sorry to change the topic (its rude and I know it) but Barack's speech this afternoon really had me in tears. PLEASE Listen to it here:

I've also posted it on my blog.
@ dejanae...hey, if you like it, we love it! wearing sweats & sneaks isn't bad...wearing too small, tattered sweats with holes in them & sneaks that flap open at the sole IS-lol!
@ jameil..OMG! me too! it could have been the dead of summer and if i had on a pink, turquoise & white outfit, i'd have on all 3 colored socks. then i thought i was getting too fly by switching the layers so one leg would have turq, then white, then pink...the other would be pink, turq then white...A MESS INDEED! ah, the memories are funny tho.
@ rezidl...ok, i literally laughed out loud at the vest & no shirt. that is CLASSIC! *i'm still laughing* thank you for sharing that hilarity.
@ F-it..well, now you are banned for changing the topic. now get outta here....JUST KIDDING, lol! you shared something pretty so it's cool. in case you haven't noticed, i love all things barack (maybe a bit too much?)...just share your fashion horror with us later ;-)
Ok I had to get myself together after that moving speech.
Fashion faux pas, HECK YES! I am a child of the 80's. My most regrettable ensemble consisted of leggings and huge oversized Tommy Hilfiger shirts. I remember going to the mall in CT with a group of friends and buying a denim mans shirt for $90.And I just knew I was too cute.
oh and I stayed with a french twist in my hair back then. oh the amounts of Jam I went thru. TERRIBLE!
...PCD, I know....it hurt me to type it. What was worst was remembering the feeling of "flyness" I must have felt to walk out of the house with that on.....Uh, oh...I'm about to throw up!!!
Rezidl
yeah... it was bad enough that he had braids on the top and the bottom faded up... but to do this mess... this would seriously scare someone to death that didnt know any better.
I think I developed my fashion sense it high school. It has always been sporty sheek, or sexy-sport... whichever you like... I remember it being "in" for girls to dress like boys and I was never the one who did it everyday... one day I would do the baggy clothes and the next day come to school in the cutest little summer dress..
That still resonates with me now... I get all dolled up when need be but know that I am just as sexy with my vs pink sweatpants and a wifebeater.
OMG too many to mention! What stands out has to be back in college rockin a zebra print skirt with a matching zebra print cowboy hat (a la Beyonce in Bills Bills Bills). I shudder at the thought.
LOL. Back in the late 80s, my class went to Philly for a class trip. Parachute pants were in--so I wore a pair of tie-dye parachute pants and a matching tie-dye Gucci shirt. To compound matters, I found a huge wide brimmed black hat, with draw strings, that I thought was the ish while I was at the Gallery mall, so I added that to the outfit.
OH THE HORROR! I should have been struck down by lightning.
Damn banned already! heheheh
@ F-it...oooh, never heard of that one, t.h. with leggings? sounds interesting :-)
@ rezidl...i'm literally STILL laughing ;-)
@ eb...no fair! you didn't post something bad. vs pink sweats are cute-i love 'em...:-P
@ elle...ok, i so can see you in that. you've always been daring, but i'm laughing nonetheless-lol!
@ traveldiva...you are offcially tied with rezidl (rthomas) for the WORST!!! omg...that sounds HILARIOUS!
@ F-it...nah, i had to mess with you :-P only one person has been banned and they were a grade A fool indeed.
I was ZEXY in my TH and legging, HA. I remember clearly wearing that outfit to the Labor Day parade to get my cent, 5¢, 10¢ dollar (dance) on. The bad part of it was why am I 100 lbs wet wearing a man's shirt, with a french roll in my hair.
Tragic!
LMAO!
